Last Thursday morning, Valentine’s Day, at about 7am as I dropped her off at school, my nearly 13-year-old, absolutely-adolescent, totally-teenage, Taylor-Swift-adoring, yell-at-her-sister, too-cool-for-school daughter Hayle got out of the car.
Before shutting the door, she paused then said,
“Dad, if it matters, I love you, too.”
The words lingered in the air for just a moment, but they’ll linger in my heart forever.
Forget “If.”
It matters.
Today’s gift of time … Lunch with my other daughter Tessa on President’s Day. Just a lunch, but it mattered.
